Oh Bless-ed Metropolitan Area!

This morning began with classic disorientation.

This lazy summer chock full of festivities celebrating over-sleeping and the occasional cat nap in front of theatrical daytime court cases came to an abrupt and premature end with my new and chic D.C job which began this morning. It is now 1:06 PM (a time that on any other summer day would signify my time to wake up) and my morning started at around 7:15 (I may have hit the snooze a couple of times, naturally). I strapped on black, corporately and fashionably acceptable heels and rushed in a frenzy onto the metro. All this early morning rushing and heel wearing really got me thinking I was in for an ordinary, yet somewhat busy city job as a high end secretary. All i needed was to balance a foaming cup of coffee with one of those cardboard holder things to keep your hands from getting burned with a cell phone and the morning paper to have the whole image down.
As soon as I entered the office, however, I came face to face with a nice, spacious, boxed up office (we're moving locations in about two weeks, I learned) with a computer that doesn't work (I am borrowing the other assistant's computer while she's out to lunch so I'd better make this documentation quick).
My first "on the job" job was to box up old Christmas decorations, including a red aluminum tree which i secretly wanted to confiscate and lug onto the metro in hopes of putting it in my dorm for next Christmas. And that's what I've been doing...for four hours now. Not that I mind. I rather enjoy the free time. I finished a book, and went on Facebook, and am now doing this. I hope to keep this going for a while as a sort of commemoration for this couped up and air conditioned summer before I head out to college. And so, day one is almost officially down.
